Pipe Burning Test Chamber

Pipe Burning Test Chamber

Combustion chamber testing the flame resistance of electrical conduits. 750 °C working temperature with an adjustable LPG/O₂ burner.

Preparing the Flame

The control valves of the LPG and O₂ gas fittings are opened. The flame is set to the size required by the standard and to 750 °C. The flame is held so that its centre meets the calibration thermocouple; once 750 °C is read, the flame is applied to the conduit.

Preparing the Conduit and the Test

A conduit sample is taken according to the sampling method and placed in the sample holder of the combustion chamber. The prepared flame is held against the conduit at a 45° angle for the period required by the standard. At the end of the period the flame is withdrawn, and the shrunken section of the conduit is measured and evaluated.

Function Check

The device is held in boiling water at 100 °C; the deviation at 750 °C is calculated from the deviation at 100 °C. At 99 °C the sound of boiling should be heard without actual boiling, and boiling should begin at 100 °C.
